COLLECTIONS FROM THE FIELD

Founded: May 2020

Collections From The Field is a publicly generated project at the intersection of art and nature. The project invited the public to visit the Spring Creek Forest Preserve in Garland, Texas, be inspired by the landscape, and create art that reflects any aspect of the ecology, history, or experiences at the Preserve.  Art submissions were displayed in an outline gallery space and on social media.

I created this project with the hope of encouraging public engagement with the land in a way that fosters a sense of responsibility for the Earth.  Using art as a medium for connection to land and community, the project also hopes to offer an outlet for creativity and reflection on land and people.

During the creation of this project, I had the opportunity to utilize many different platforms for advertising and outreach. Below are some examples of the work I did for the launch.

Logos

I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create a logo for Collections From The Field.

This project works in collaboration with the City of Garland and the Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest. During the creation of this project, I gave presentations to the Garland Parks and Recreation Department, Garland Cultural Arts Board, and Garland Parks and Recreation Board.

The project was also featured in the local newspaper, The Garland Texan.
